Exploring Opportunities at Sterling Wells: A Glimpse into the Future for ACCA Students in Nepal
Sterling Wells, a sister company of a UK-based property accounting firm, has evolved into a promising FinTech enterprise. With a strong presence in both the UK and Nepal, the company is leading the way in automation, global outsourcing, and specialised tax advisory. For ACCA students in Nepal, Sterling Wells offers an exciting avenue for both professional growth and global exposure.
Bridging Local Talent with Global Expertise
One of the key advantages of working with Sterling Wells lies in the international exposure it offers. ACCA students, particularly those familiar with UK accounting and taxation, find themselves at a unique advantage. Their academic foundation aligns directly with the services Sterling Wells provides to its UK-based clients, making their transition from theory to practice seamless.
The firm particularly values students who have opted for papers like Advanced Taxation (ATX), as UK tax laws play a central role in day-to-day operations. This direct application of academic knowledge into professional work helps students reinforce their learning and gain real-world insights.
What Sterling Wells Looks for in ACCA Graduates
While experience is not a prerequisite, Sterling Wells highly values technical knowledge, academic consistency, and above all, passion and dedication. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply, with the expectation that their commitment during academic life will reflect in their professional performance.
Apart from technical skills, behavioral attributes like professionalism, communication, and teamwork are integral to the hiring process. The company also places great emphasis on soft skills—something often overlooked in traditional accounting roles.
Mentorship and Continuous Learning
Sterling Wells fosters a mentorship-driven culture. The leadership team comprises seasoned professionals, including ACCA and CA-qualified mentors, who guide recruits through the technical and practical challenges of tax and accounting. From day one, new team members receive structured training and mentorship to accelerate their development.
To further support learning, Sterling Wells sponsors CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) qualifications, underlining its commitment to building tax expertise.
The Role of Technology in Modern Accounting
Technology is a cornerstone of Sterling Wells’ operations. The firm has fully embraced automation and paperless processes, developing its own accounting software to streamline tasks. This digitalisation not only increases efficiency but also reduces errors and enhances collaboration.
To remain relevant, ACCA students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with automation tools, accounting software, and even digital marketing basics such as SEO and LinkedIn branding. In today’s job market, knowing how to present oneself online is as important as passing exams.
A Practical Pathway into Taxation and Accounting at Sterling Wells
At Sterling Wells, even those who are still building their expertise in taxation are encouraged to take meaningful steps toward career growth. The company supports a hands-on learning environment where team members have access to dual desktop setups, making it easier to review documents, analyze data, and grasp complex tax and accounting processes with clarity and efficiency.
What sets Sterling Wells apart is its openness to alternative entry points into technical roles. For instance, ACCA students or new recruits can begin by contributing to the firm through content creation. By researching UK tax laws and browsing relevant websites, they can start crafting informative articles based on real tax topics. This not only strengthens their understanding of UK taxation but also allows them to build a solid foundation in written communication—an increasingly valuable skill in modern finance. It serves as a valuable entry point that doesn’t just build competence but also visibility within the company.
Over time, as confidence and knowledge grow, these individuals have the opportunity to transition into more specialized roles in accounting or tax advisory. This flexible pathway helps ensure that everyone can contribute meaningfully, regardless of where they start in their professional journey.
Global Exposure and Career Progression
Sterling Wells emphasizes international mobility. Outstanding performers are awarded the opportunity to visit the UK, offering a firsthand experience of the firm’s headquarters. Several team members have already relocated permanently to the UK under work permit arrangements, serving as living proof of the career potential within the company.
Progression at Sterling Wells is performance-driven. Promotions are not restricted by timelines but are instead linked to individual initiatives, leadership qualities, and technical acumen. Some team members have advanced within just six months of joining, showcasing the firm’s commitment to recognising and rewarding talent.
Work-Life Balance and Company Culture
Despite its fast-paced environment, Sterling Wells ensures a strong work-life balance with five-day workweeks, reduced working hours (45 hours/week), and regular social events. The firm Organises monthly competitions and annual functions that celebrate both Nepali and International holidays, ensuring team cohesion and cultural inclusivity.

PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVES
Accounting in the Age of Intelligence: Why Adapta
As someone who’s watched the finance profession evolve firsthand across Nepal, I’ve seen AI shift from buzzword to boardroom. This article is my reflection on that journey—what it means for us today, and how we lead with it tomorrow.
Just a few years ago, an accountant’s role seemed pretty straightforward—numbers, compliance, and endless reports. But quietly, almost unnoticed at first, a revolution began reshaping accounting and finance. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has not just arrived—it’s fundamentally changing the way accountants work, interact with data, and make critical decisions.
Think back about ten years. Accountants spent countless hours poring over spreadsheets, manually verifying entries, and painstakingly auditing records. Fast forward to today, and the difference is astonishing. Intelligent algorithms now swiftly handle tasks that once consumed entire workdays, freeing professionals to focus on more strategic, high-value work. This shift, driven by technologies like machine learning, natural language processing, and robotic process automation (RPA), is redefining what it means to be an accountant.
But let’s not pretend it’s all smooth sailing. The arrival of AI raises tough questions: Can we trust these algorithms completely? How do we ensure the ethical use of sensitive data? And can regulation keep pace with rapid technological changes? AI won’t replace human judgment entirely—rather, it highlights the need for accountants to critically engage with these tools, adapt their roles, and ensure the integrity and reliability of financial information.
The true power of AI becomes clear in auditing and predictive analytics. AI tools now review entire data sets instead of limited samples, dramatically reducing audit risks and boosting accuracy. Predictive analytics give finance teams the power to anticipate market trends and risks with remarkable precision, enabling smarter strategic decisions.
At ACCA, we see clearly that the profession is at a critical juncture. Accountants can’t just keep pace with AI; they must become proficient users who leverage technology effectively. We’ve proactively integrated digital skills into our qualifications and ongoing training programs, ensuring accountants are prepared for a future shaped by technology.
At ACCA, we are not just observing the AI revolution—we are actively shaping how the profession engages with it. Through our AI Monitor series, we’ve explored key themes such as trust, risk, talent, and ethical data use. Our Smart Alliance report shows how finance professionals are increasingly at the helm of AI adoption strategies. To uphold the profession’s integrity in this evolving landscape, we’ve partnered with Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) to launch a Certificate in Ethical AI, equipping accountants to navigate complex ethical challenges. We also provide policy-level guidance to help firms build responsible AI governance frameworks. At the core of all this, we continue to emphasize what technology cannot replace—professional judgment, ethical leadership, and critical thinking.
Ultimately, AI’s story in accounting and finance is about empowering professionals, enhancing resilience, and fostering innovation. It challenges us all to rethink traditional roles and step into a more strategic, impactful future. Those who embrace this change will lead not only their organizations but the industry itself into a thriving, digitally driven economy.

STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES
From CA to ACCA: How It Has Transformed My Professional Journey
Reshaping boundaries from the journey: A strategic Qualification Shift
“When I joined CA, little did I know the path it was leading me to – until I discovered ACCA.”
After joining CA, I recognized very little gap between CA and ACCA in learning of the major area of Accounts, Audit, Finance and Taxation. However, Considering the time consumption and uncertainty of completion in CA, ACCA seemed accomplishable in short time with equal or more expertise in IFRS, IAS and International Taxation. As my major focus was always beyond traditional audit and compliance roles, ACCA’s boarder, strategic business approach gave in competitive edge and shift towards entrepreneurship.
The catalyst: Why I shift to ACCA
ACCA provides broader coverage of Strategic Finance, Business Leadership and Global Standards Including IFRS and UK GAAP. CA being more technical and rule based often requires more time on studying rather than analyzing and interpreting. ACCA is more business oriented and analytical and its flexible study patterns and exams increase the percentage completion rate with boarder practical knowledge. ACCA mostly focuses on the practical application of theory learned with the extensive approach in risk management, sustainability reporting, digital finance and ethics. Unlike niche-focused qualifications, ACCA’s versatility appealed to my ambition to offer a passport to the international market.
“I didn’t abandon CA; I chose a path that better fit my ambitions”
The ACCA Advantage: How ACCA’s Structure Gave me control over my career timeline
Thanks to my CAP 1 qualification, I received exemption for two of my knowledge level papers (BT and MA), saving me nearly half a year of study time and significant exam fees. The best part is ACCA allowed me to attempt all my papers per quarter based on my schedule along with my practical experience requirement. This modular approach meant I was making consistent progress; while my CA peers were still stuck in time, stressing over article ship hustle, pending syllabus, difficulties balancing professional, personal and study life. Considerable insight to be noted was my CAP 1 preparation wasn’t wasted-It gave me a strong foundation that made tackling ACCA’s more strategic papers significantly easier.
From Local to Global: How ACCA Accelerated My Path to a Global Finance Career
ACCA transformed my career trajectory by equipping me with both technical mastery and strategic business acumen. The program’s real-world approach – from data analytics modules to case-based strategic exams – prepared me to add immediate value in multinational environments. I’ve applied these skills daily in my current role, whether analyzing financial data through Power BI or advising on cross-border transactions using IFRS standards. What truly differentiates ACCA is its global currency; the qualification opened doors to opportunities in international markets that value its unique blend of accounting rigor and commercial awareness. Now working with teams across multiple regions, I appreciate how ACCA gave me not just technical knowledge, but a truly borderless professional perspective.
Today, I don’t just interpret numbers I influence decisions across continents, and ACCA built that bridge.
Conclusion
Choosing ACCA over CA wasn’t just about saving time, it was about gaining the right skills for a global finance career. ACCA gave me practical expertise in IFRS, data analytics, and strategic decision-making, all while letting me work and study at my own pace. Now, I don’t just follow accounting rules; I use them to solve real business problems worldwide.
For anyone torn between CA and ACCA, my advice is simple: If you want flexibility, global opportunities, and a future-proof skillset, ACCA is the smarter path. It didn’t just change my career—it expanded it beyond borders.
“ACCA didn’t just teach me accounting, it taught me how to lead in the global economy.”
By Prakriti Bhandari, ACCA Affiliate, Audit Associate at N.B. Rokaya and Associates
Beyond the Numbers: My Journey from ACCA to Entrepreneurship
Every journey has a starting point. Mine began at the age of 23, when I completed my ACCA qualification—a milestone that represented far more than academic success. It marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to learning, growth, and resilience. Being ranked second throughout Nepal for advance financial reporting (now known as SBR), governance, risk, and ethics (now known as AFM), as well as advance audit (now known as AAA), furnished me with even more motivation to pursue this degree.
Soon after, I joined PKF T.R. Upadhya & Co. for my articleship. That experience was truly transformative. It not only deepened my technical understanding of finance and auditing but also played a pivotal role in shaping my professional identity. Working with a diverse range of clients and navigating complex financial systems gave me insights that no classroom or textbook could ever provide.
After completing my articleship, I transitioned into the banking sector, joining Shangrila Development Bank, where I served for 4.5 years. I started as an Internal Auditor and later moved into the Finance Department. There, I refined my skills in financial reporting, budgeting, and regulatory compliance—roles that demanded accuracy, analytical thinking, and unwavering attention to detail, all of which were honed during my ACCA journey.
But the path didn’t stop there. I eventually stepped into a leadership role as the Head of AML/CFT Unit. In this position, I was entrusted with managing financial crime risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. It was a role of great responsibility and impact—protecting the integrity of the financial system. Alongside these duties, I also embraced the role of an in-house trainer, sharing knowledge and empowering future professionals—something I found deeply rewarding.
While my career progressed, another part of me was quietly evolving: the spirit of entrepreneurship. Today, I’m proud to be the co-founder of Easy Escape Tours and Travels, where I blend my financial acumen with a passion for creating memorable journeys. It’s a venture that reflects both who I am and what I love.
Through every phase of my journey—whether in audit rooms, corporate corridors, or entrepreneurial ventures—ACCA has been more than just a qualification. It has been a guiding mindset. It taught me resilience, ethical responsibility, and the importance of continuous development.
As I look ahead, I know this is still just the beginning. The numbers may have laid the foundation, but the journey I’m on goes far beyond them.

“Anatomy of a Winning Scholarship Essay: A Guide for ACCA Aspirants”
As the saying goes “what we do in life, echoes in eternity”
To be honest, I would always say that my initial accomplishment was to conquer my self-doubts; this scholarship came as my accolade. Therefore, I carry it as something more than just a title, rather a reminder that I am more than my self-doubts. It was not an overnight feat; rather, it was a testament to the steady work I put into my academic path and my aspirations to make a difference, both personally and professionally. The support and guidance I received during my tenure allowed me to experience the interconnectedness of the world, and the priceless lessons I learned are bound to last a lifetime. As the recipient of the AGK Partners scholarship for 2024, I would like to share a few words with all of the readers. I hope this guide to your application procedure will prove insightful.
First and foremost, the candidates must adhere to the specified theme, and their essay must be no more than 1000 words and sent in PDF format with the title “Essay for scholarship.” My essay was divided up into three parts: the introduction, the main body, and the conclusion, in which I discussed the description and my future goals. The essay has to be sent in with an updated resume along with the results of the applied knowledge level. I would like to discuss into a greater extent about the divisions I outlined above for your reference.
Introduction
This part of the essay serves as your first impression. Presenting yourself by acknowledging who you are as a person and the motivations for your decision to pursue ACCA. This is the section of the essay where your individuality stands out, so it’s essential to remain authentic. In the introductory section, the sponsors are presented with you as an individual who has thoughts and desires, dreams and aspirations, sans judgements.
Main body
This is where you establish a deeper connection with the readers. For this section, you must have a theme and give your all with proper reasoning. You could discuss your goals as an ACCA student and a prospective member in this section, along with the impact that they will have on the community at large. You must be able to persuade the readers that the issues you discuss are worth the attention and your essay is worthy of winning by honestly expressing your goals as an ACCA student and prospective member. Discussing your motivation for doing ACCA and your motivation for continuing to do so is important because starting something and staying consistent with it are two distinct matters. Most importantly, it is necessary to discuss the obstacles and shortfalls you have found in the accounting field as well as the current global issues that could be actively addressed by qualified finance and accounting professionals in order to convey your vision and distinguish yourself from the other applicants. If the sponsor organization’s ideals align with yours, that could work to your advantage. Since AGK partners provide internship opportunities to the scholarship winner, you must be passionate about working in the finance, tax, and advisory fields where you can advance as they continue to provide support and guidance through financial mediums as a student and assist you in becoming a proficient finance expert as their employee. Your enthusiasm as a trainee and your dedication and discipline to passing the ACCA tests must thus be made evident here.
Conclusion
You could wrap up your essay by outlining the improvements you hope to see in this field and the part you are prepared to play in ensuring them taking place in reality. Any suggestions the applicants may have for resolving the problems they have addressed in their essay are encouraged to be shared. I recall using a quote that I could truly identify with to wrap up my winning essay.
By eliminating financial barriers and offering a foundation for a promising future with ongoing mentorship and advice in the workplace to support your professional and personal development, receiving such a coveted scholarship boosts your motivation to continue pursuing this degree. Too often, we step back even before trying something out, driven by the fear of failure. I hope my story inspires you to take a chance because you never know, you could be the next recipient of AGK partners scholarship.
Finally, I will always cherish the generosity I received from my AGK partners, especially from Bal Krishna Sir, during a brief exchange. I was incredibly touched by the support and guidance I was given. It’s true that meeting people with higher minds makes you feel important. It instills a greater self-worth and a feeling of community. Last but not least, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to ACCA Nepal, AGK partners Nepal, and AGK partners UK for acknowledging my efforts and granting me their invaluable support.
